The Generation 1 AK Lightning Bolt&trade removes the right side charging handle and adds a left side-charging handle. This allows the operator to cycle the weapon from the left side improving ergonomics and speeds of reloads. Another advantage of using the Gen 1 style is the operator will be able to chamber a round in the weapon with out disengaging the safety.
Although it is not pictured, the Lightning Bolt DOES come with a modified bolt cover.

The Generation 2 AK Lightning Bolt&trade shares all the features of its 2008 predecessor with the retention of the right side charging handle. This will allow ambidextrous use and allow safeties that have a bolt hold open notch to be used with our product.

Anthony, I had looked at many AK left side handle charging systems, this was the truest and simplest form. Mikhail Kalashnikov couldn't have done it better. Anything fancier would just be another part to jam at the wrong time. Not to mention it keeps the profile and function of the AK unchanged. My reload time was about 5 seconds with sight reacquisition. Adding the Lighting bolt brought it down to a brisk 3 seconds, with no serious practice. Never letting go of the grip makes all the difference in the sight reacquisition. Anyone under fire understands how important 2 seconds are. This modification was worth the trouble alone for the tough ceramic coating... I tried to scratch the inside of the top cover with my knife, I gave up after 1 minute and had to go re-sharpen my knife...took the point off... -David Shepard
